Drouin Digitized Images Assistants and Collectors
The Drouin Assistants and Collectors is a group of volunteers committed to assisting ACGS members and non-members who want to use the Drouin Database on the days the library is open as well as providing access to the Drouin records to distant members or non-members who live too far to come to ACGS or even our local members who prefer to have our Drouin Team collect the images.
For our local library patrons:
For those who come to the library, the Drouin "Assistants" will show members and non-members how to access the database, how to retrieve their *primary source* images, how to save them and when done, will save all of the images onto a CD.For distant patrons we offer two options to obtain the primary records:
|
1 The Drouin "Collectors" will retrieve the digitized images for those members and non-members who cannot come to our library but would like to have these primary records. They will collect the images, burn them onto a CD and mail them. This is an excellent opportunity to obtain primary records at the lowest cost. Computer time is purchased in advance by purchasing 1-hour coupons and volunteers at our library retrieve the requested records. On average, a volunteer can retrieve 10 records per hour. There is a charge of fifteen cents per image retrieved. Additionally, there is a charge of $1.00 to cover the costs of the CD and mailer. As an example, if you order 50 church records the cost for a member will be about $15.00 for computer time (5 hours), $7.50 for images and $1.00 for CD and mailer. In other words, you get 50 primary records for less than $24.00. The price is even less if more computer time is purchased up front. (See chart below) Computer time is charged at double the member rate for non-members.
To purchase coupons and to order records, please contact Gerry Savard at Drouin@acgs.org A complete list of records desired must be submitted. This must include the type of act required, i.e., baptism, marriage or burial, the participants, where the act occurred and the exact date. The list of records should be sorted by location and date in order to minimize computer time. This can be submitted by mail or by email as a text file or Word Document. This is not a research service and the Drouin Assistants or Collectors cannot spend time doing your research. Your research must be done and you must send the name, date and place of the ancestors whose records you require. What is important to know is that ACGS is committed to helping you obtain these records and our volunteers are willing to go the extra mile to make it happen no matter where you live. |
2 A no fuss, no muss option - The Research Department will retrieve the digitized images for those members and non-members who cannot come to our library but would like to have these primary records. They will collect the images, burn them onto a CD and mail them. A great option for obtaining a handful images. Members pay $2 per image for up to 10 images or just $1 per image if more than 10 images are requested, plus $1 for the CD and mailer. (If printed to paper, depending on the number of images, postage may be added.) You provide the information required - name, date [at least month and year], place, your membership information - member number, name, address etc. For example, when all required data is provided for 20 events, it would cost a member $21. - No coupons to buy, no figuring out how many coupons to send, etc. Non-members pay $5 per image for up to 10 images or $3 per image if more than 10 images are requested. The other fees are the same as above. Send requests to Constance Hébert at Research@acgs.org with the required information for lookups. Please provide the following data for each copy of a Drouin record requested: Date of Event:____________________ Location of Event: ____________________ County: __________________ (if known) Type of request: __ Baptism __ Marriage __ Burial Name of person(s) in the event:__________________________________________ Example: Please be aware that these events were recorded in French or occasionally, in Latin. The Research Department will translate a French record into English for a charge of $10.00 per record. If you do need help with your research the Research Department offers both single event research as well as tracing a complete line back to France!.
