ACGS Library

The ACGS library has grown over the last 50 years from meeting in the founders’ living rooms to the current 2600+ sq. ft. library that today we call home. Our holdings of over 10,000 items include resources for all of New England, Northern and Hudson River Valley NY, as well as Quebec, the Maritimes and a large Acadian section. In addition to genealogy resources and media, the Library also has computer access to third-party genealogy databases. We have volunteers on-site to help you with your search.   We also offer research services to non-members for a fee and to our members at a discount.  Check out the Research-Services page for details!

Edge Browser Work Around

We recently discovered that people using Edge Browser could no longer view our PDFs on our website with this browser.  Edge change something in their set up that only allows certain file types to be viewable in their browser.  But we have found a work around for this.  Please watch the attached video link for directions on how to see our PDFs in your Edge browser.

Library Holdings Catalog Now Available on Website

Everyone has been so patient as we worked out all the programming bugs for the new section of our website.  The day has finally arrived when I can announce Phase I of the Library Holdings Project is now ready to use!

The Holdings Catalog search engine will replace our card catalog in the library, it lists all the books, repertories, family histories, and microfilm/fiche that are found in the library. When a search is done all possible results from our holdings will be displayed, however not all results will be viewable online. If the “format” is “PDF” the book is viewable online, “Dload” it may be purchased in the sales catalog, and all other formats may only be viewed in the library.

We hope that our members find this resource as valuable as we believe it to be.  Please let us know if you find any problems with the Holdings Catalog at [email protected].

Featured Photograph

Arthur R.A. Dufault (1890-1959) and Coral Lomme & their 10 Children

This photograph was submitted by Alexis Peters, fellow member of the ACGS. This photo was taken circa 1927-1929 in Worcester, MA.  From the right: My maternal 2x great-grandparents, Arthur R.A. Dufault (1890-1959) and Coral Lomme. Their children Roland E Dufault (1911-1987), Helen Dufualt (1913-1995), Raymond R. Dufault (1914-2003), Estelle T. Dufault (1915-2009), Arthur L. Dufault, my great-grandfather Albert Henry Dufault (1919-2009), Dolores Dufault (1920-2010), Leo E. Dufault (1923-2000), Edward Dufault (1925-1977), and one unknown Dufault child. Coral is pregnant with another Dufault child in this photo, but I haven’t been able to find out who, my great-grampa did not talk much about his family and he passed away when I was 10.

Arthur was born the 5th of 11 known Dufault children on May 25, 1890, in Saint-Germain-de-Grantham, Drummond, Quebec. His parents were Misael Dufualt (1853-?) born in Sainte-Victoire-de-Sorel, Le Bas-Richelieu, Quebec and Solomee/Salome Fontaine Dit Bienvenu (1862-1934) born in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec. Misael, Salome, and 6 of their children (including Arthur) are listed in the 1900 Auburn, Worcester, MA census. Misael, Salome and 4 of their 6 children (including Arthur) are listed with an immigration date of 1895. As far as I am aware all the male children served in WW2. My great-grampa was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge and was stationed in Austria. He was a lifelong machinist and worked for Wyman-Gordon on military contracts, including building closed die forgings for the Saturn V rocket.

Coral was born the 4th of 10 known Lomme children in 1890 in Holyoke, Hampden, MA. Her parents were Franke Emile Lomme (1865-?) born in Quebec and Ellen L. Lancto (1855-?) born in Chateaugay, Franklin, New York. Very little is known about Coral’s family other than her parents and siblings’ names and general birthplaces.
