What Does Membership Include?

  • Access to one of the largest French-Canadian Research libraries in the United States – over 10,000 volumes.
  • Online access to our Web Site’s Members-Only Portal encompassing the following:
    • ACGS Published Repertoires – searchable event (birth, marriage, death) database with transcriptions from original church registers produced by ACGS
    • Archive of all A-C Genealogists – All of the prior published journals by ACGS from Issue 1 in 1973 to current day Issues are available to open and read.
    • Genealogie Quebec * This is the premier Canadian record site that has ALL available church records from Canada. In the “LaFrance” section, records may be searched in multiple ways and where possible results have a link to the original record. There are other sections of the site with obituaries, additional birth, marriage and death transcriptions, notarial acts, etc.
    • PRDH – This site is a companion site to LaFrance and has records arranged by family groups. This saves a lot of time when collecting all the relevant information on a family. It is so convenient that it becomes a substitute for searching in LaFrance. However, we subscribe to this site on a “per lookup” basis and ask that you restrict using it to when it is necessary.
    • ACGS Obituary Collection – searchable database with images of ½ Million Obits from mainly Southern NH from 1980-2000.
    • MyHeritage Library Edition – search the databases of MyHeritage
    • Periodicals – journals from other societies that we have an exchange program with, alphabetical listing of publications, with full PDF of each issue.
    • Ancestral Charts -The research department of ACGS, over the years, has researched and created ancestral charts for a large number of surnames.  We invite you to use the index provided to search for your ancestors and view the chart.
    • ACGS Holdings Catalog – Our entire holding card catalog from the Library has been uploaded to a searchable database to our website. The database lists all the books, repertories, family histories, and microfilm/fiche that are found in the library.
    • ACGS Online Library  – When a search is done of the Holdings Catalog, some results will have a “format” of “PDF”. Those books are viewable online. We currently have over 600 of our books available in the Online Library and are adding more every day. Holdings with a format of  “Dload” (Download) may be purchased in the sales catalog, and all other formats may only be viewed in the library.  If there is a resource that you are interested in that is only available in the library and you are not able to come to the library, please email our Research Department with the information you are looking for.
      • The PDFs in the Holdings Catalog are our newest addition to the website and is a work in progress. We currently have just over 600 repertory (parish register) books loaded that we have scanned from our holdings that are from New England and NY.  Feel free to explore what is available, there will be new releases to the database as we finish scanning each state and other resources.
  • “Quick Look Ups” of records when dates and names are known.   Utilize our Research Department to find records of your ancestors when the names and dates are known of the event (baptism, marriage, burial).
  • Individual assistance and training in utilizing the facilities of our Research Library
  • Discounted fees for translations and research services
  • Free publication of three single event queries in the American-Canadian Genealogist during one year.  Post questions on brick walls in your research to the membership base in the Society journal. If anyone in our membership has done research on person(s) in question they will reply to the editor with an answer that will be published in the next available journal.
  • Special Member Pricing for the Spring Conference, and the Fall Conference with the annual business meeting to vote for the officers and directors of your Society.
  • Classes presented at ACGS library.
  • Member pricing for Franco-American Centre events.
  • Automatic Subscription to Monthly Newsletter.
  • Subscription to the Society’s journal, the American-Canadian Genealogist published 3 times a year.  This is the official journal of the American-Canadian Genealogical Society and a major benefit of membership in our society. The journal is intended to be informative, educational, and your link to the past. The focus of articles is on Acadian, French-Canadian and Franco-American family history and genealogy. Because of the diversity of our readership, we try to include articles about Québec and Acadia and the migration of these people from all French Canada and Acadia into New England, New York and any other area in North America where descendants of New France settled. All members are encouraged to submit articles for publication.
  • ACGS is a Family Search Affiliate Library which means when there is a locked file on Family Search when accessing a file at home, we will have access to it from the IP address at the library so that it is viewable and printable.

*Restrictions apply -The number of simultaneous users is limited and access at any given time is not guaranteed due to network availability.
