From the beginning of NH becoming a state until 1947, all name changes done through the County Courthouses had to be approved by the Legislature. Every 2 years, the Legislature is required to publish a report of what they have done. Basically, they rubber-stamped the approvals. Since there is a complete set of those books at the State Archives in the research room, the data was transcribed from those books and an Access Database was created. Any notes that were in the books were included, especially mentions of Adoption.
