Making the Most of the Canadian Census Records
Canadian census records from 1851 to 1931 offer invaluable details for family historians, but each census presents unique content and challenges. By tracing three families—Canadian, French-Canadian, and Black Canadian—through these records, practical strategies are demonstrated. Discover how surname variations, enumerator instructions, and changing census questions influence your research, and learn the best websites for accessing these collections. From the nation-building 1871 Federal Census to the Prairie Province special returns and the modern 1931 release, attendees will gain the tools to effectively interpret census data and enhance their Canadian genealogy research.
